                                                                 NOSTALGIA
Society fucked us over.  More than twice.  This coincidental bullshit we’re led to follow “I want to be a doctor,  I want to be an actor and a astronaut and rapper and basketball player!”  Really?  Shut up.  I won’t be a hypocrite and say that I haven’t had dreams in a similar manner at a very young age.  We all create our very own dreams whether from inspiration or influence;  it is what sets us free from reality,  sets us apart from cliché bullshit and onto the path of unique unveil.  And sooner or later,  (in my opinion I’d prefer the latter)  as we age,  our dreams will corrupt and die along with our change in society.  It pisses me off to think that our dreams die along with the era it connotes from...  I mean I‘m a passionate artist however the golden age for art is long on.  Being one who’s nostalgic I’ve always felt I’ve been born ahead of my time.  I belong somewhere else.  A different era in the past where all is original and dreams were fulfilled and the world was full of idealists. The winner will always be young. My high school experience.  Pusha-T drug raps. Champion gym uniforms. Caravaggio obsession. Michael Jordan as God. Kurt Cobain felt the most real. Mixed kid with mixed tendencies. That juxtaposition.
Remind me why we’re in this shit?
We seem to be getting dumber and dumber.  I mean we have all this amazing technology and yet computers have turned into basically four figure wank machines.  The internet was supposed to set us free,  democratize us,  but all its really given us is Howard dean’s aborted candidacy and 24-hour a day access to kiddie porn,  you know.  And people...  They don’t write anymore - they blog.  (Haha, the irony).  Instead of talking,  they text,  no punctuation,  no grammar:  LOL this and LMFAO that.  You know,  it just seems to me it’s just a bunch of stupid people pseudo-communicating with a bunch of other stupid people in a proto-language that resembles more what cavemen used to speak rather than the King’s English.  The downfall of literature in english itself just goes to show how our eras have changed from a ‘to be or not to be’ to a ‘LMFAO’.  You’re kidding right? It’s ironic how we’re meant to be evolving with our ideas yet all I see is everything happening backwards; the old legends like Ernst Hemingway,  F. Scott Fitzgerald and Shakespeare should have been around now and we should have been back in their time seeing as how crap and stupid we write in comparison to them even though we’re yeaaaars ahead.  The most famous writer of the renaissance time, William Shakespeare. The dude wrote 37 plays between 1590 and 1613.  His plays reflect the ideas of individualism and the unconquerable human spirit,  and most of them are still performed today.  What amazes me is how his literature still lives after 400 years...  Would you see that happening with the people of today?  We lack originality.
The rap music of today shares many characteristics of the pop/rock industry.  They are primarily concerned with money.  It is not about the quality of the rhymes being released but about how many they can put out in a year like it’s some sort of blind race to the finish.  The result is music that is very monotonous and thin. In simple terms:  Shit.  The albums are released so frequently that people never get a chance to realize how one-dimensional their favorite rapper is,  and are buying their next album.  The other side of the rap industry is filled with phonies.  These rappers take old rap and pop songs and remix them with new lyrics and some new beats.  It is sad to see people credit rappers like Puff Daddy or Will Smith with a song that was actually written by Sting or Stevie Wonder.  The main reason for the rise of trendy pop and rap is MTV.    I’m sure we’re all fucking familiar with MTV.  They get stuck on a couple different types of music and then exploit it.  Record labels see MTV as a way to get the band they promote to sell records.  To do this they find bands to fit into the mainstream sound.  These bands hold positions in the top ten for a while but soon are thrown into the one hit wonder bin because their sound lacks originality.  By the time this happens a couple million people have already spent 10 to 15 pounds on their CD.  You are at a loss and the record company is up several million pounds or dollars or whatever.  And there you have it..  The music industry of today.  Voila. Nothing really lives anymore,  musicians get their 15 minutes of fame and end,  whereas the music from the past eras have stretched beyond.  It’s like we’re emulating and recycling everything from the past for our entertainment today,  which leads me to my million pound question:  Have the people of the world ran out of ideas?  We strive away from original and rely on the past.  We’re being led by fools and inspired by morons.  Like Charles Bukowski once said ‘The intelligent people are full of doubt,  while the stupid people are full of confidence’.
My most favoured form of art which requires the tools: Canvas/paper and pen/pencil/brush. Art plays a huge part in the direction the world takes, for example the renaissance. Incomparable men like Leonardo Da Vinci, Michelangelo and Raphael rose and changed the world forever. My favourite and most incredible art I believe to ever be produced was the Sistine Chapel... You can’t picture somebody doing that today or inventing a flying machine like Leonardo or.. I can go on forever. With art there were many movements. Movements that challenged the world, people’s perspectives and society itself.  Dadaism.  A movement that was born from the horrors of World War I.  It challenged the war and the negative bullshit surrounding the world at this time and reproduced the positive.  Today,  2013 our artists strongly lack originality.  There are no more movements,  no more purpose,  everybody just wants to shock the world.  Damien Hirst chopped up a giant shark,  placed it in a glass tank and called it art.  Wow.  Where’s the purpose?  Where’s the art?  I believe art is a tool to change the world for the better,  to make a difference in our society instead of doing it for the riches and the fame.
I would rather live fast and die young leaving behind a legacy I’ve worked hard on,  than use my creativity to make money and live the ‘good life’.  I want to inflict change,  they say the pen is mightier than the sword.

How do you even feel about this...?  You as the people,  what can we,  us, do to fix what’s been damaged?  I believe the corruption in the concept of the ‘American Dream’ or any dream in this case is greed.  The concept of the ‘American Dream’ was to believed to be going from ‘Rags to riches’ and rising as the people of tomorrow achieving and succeeding in what you believe in.  And now it’s gone to shit!  All about ‘Winning at all cost’ and who has made the most money...  See what I mean about blind races?   Greed has poisoned men’s souls;  has barricaded the world with hate;  has goose-stepped us into misery and bloodshed.  We have developed speed,  but we have shut ourselves in.  Machinery that gives abundance has left us in want. Our knowledge has made us cynical;  our cleverness,  hard and unkind. We think too much and feel too little.  More than machinery we need humanity.  More than cleverness,  we need kindness and gentleness. Without these qualities,  life will be violent and all will be lost.
But that’s just my opinion ain’t it.

Happy fucking New Year.
